Making Charity Donations Simple, Transparent and Fulfilling for the Young Generation

Brief

Mastercard Donation Platform is a solution for busy young working professionals who just want an easy way to donate to their cared causes. After being presented at the 2019 Global Inclusive Growth Summit and picked by CEO Ajay Banga, this app was sold to Citi Bank, among other corporate clients.

The user journey is three-parted. 1) Set up regular auto-donation for one's favorite charities. 2) One-off donations to a special campaign/emergency. 3) A separate Donation Page to track impact and adjust settings. It's designed to be simple, automizable, and impact-driven.

Key design decisions include 1) Combine data with personal narrative to move people 2) Use social pressuring for the good  3) Design "slow experiences". Allow the content to soak into the user and build up emotional ties over time for long-term donation commitments.
